~~~ The Optimum White Doggie Diet ~~~
![]()
The Due to this breed's Nordic heritage, the American Eskimo Dog has specific diet needs. It is my firm belief that a healthy Eskie sports a full, lucscious, and sparkling white coat. This coat is essential in maintaining the general health of the dog.
Given that the American Eskimo has pink skin, the thick double coat provides the much needed protection from the sun assisting in maintaining and controlling their body temperature. Under no circumstances should the American Eskimo be "shaved down" for the summer months. Doing so jeopordizes the aminal's health & well-being putting them at an increased risk for hot spots or over-heating resulting from over exposure to the sun and/or the high temperatures of summer weather.
Because the American Eskimo supports the fur of a dog 2 to 3 times its size, it is important to ensure the dog is receiving an adequate amount of the omega oils in its diet. Many owners choose to add the skin & coat supplement available at most pet supply stores. Another approach is to use salmon oil capsules. Simply pierce the capsule with a pin or needle & squeeze directly onto their food. One capsule a day should be appropriate.
I fully recommend avoiding "grocery store" brands of dog food if at all possible. These foods are NOT made from human grade ingredients, most being grain based as opposed to protein based. In addition, most of these products are derived from rendered animal processing. Simply stated, proteins resulting from this process include countless toxins that compromise the overall vitality of your pet.
Enzymes are imperative to supporting the digestion process. Supplement the diet with fresh vegetables and fruits whenever possible. Suggestions include carrots, green beans, peas, squash, zuchinni, applies, melons, etc. However, avoid grapes, onions, garlic, and of course, CHOCOLATE as these are not "good" for dogs. In addition, consider an enzyme supplement such as Prozyme.
